COLUMBIA HOSPITAL CORPORATION REPORTS CONTINUED EXPANSION IN FIRST QUARTER PATIENT VOLUMES

 FORT WORTH, Texas, April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Hospital Corporation (NASDAQ: CHOS) today announced results of its operating statistics for the first quarter of 1993. The figures reflect an increase in patient volumes over the first quarter of 1992. The following table summarizes selected comparative key operating statistics for the quarters ended March 31, 1993 and 1992.

 The ten hospitals that Columbia owned for the entire first quarters of 1993 and 1992 also demonstrated strong growth in patient volumes. The table on the next page reflects these same selected comparative key operating statistics on a same-hospital basis for the quarters ended March 31, 1993 and 1992.

 Columbia owns and operates 26 hospitals and 11 related healthcare businesses primarily in five Texas and Florida markets, all structured in cooperative healthcare networks in order to reduce the costs of providing medical care. Columbia recently announced that it had signed a letter of intent to acquire Beaumont Medical and Surgical Hospitals in Beaumont, Texas, and Pembroke Pines Hospital in Pembroke Pines, Fla.
 Columbia plans to announce first quarter earnings during the first week of May.
