COLUMBIA HEALTHCARE SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT WITH INDEPENDENCE REGIONAL HEALTH CENTER IN KANSAS CITY

 LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: COL) today announced that it has signed a letter of intent with the Board of Directors of Independence Regional Health Center in Independence, Mo., to acquire the 266-bed hospital. Terms were not disclosed.
 Columbia currently owns and operates 400-bed Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kan. The addition of Independence Regional will strengthen Columbia's position in the Kansas City market to enable Columbia to reduce its costs, and aggressively bid for healthcare contracts based upon quality and price.

"By sharing administrative costs, pooling our medical experience and combining our local purchasing power, healthcare delivery in Kansas City should become more efficient, while maintaining the high quality that patients of these two hospitals have come to know and expect."
