COLUMBIA CREST ANNOUNCES CHEF CONTEST TO INTRODUCE 1990 MERLOT
SEATTLE, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Crest winery said today it will host a chefs contest Dec. 6 to introduce its 1990 Merlot. The winery is inviting professional chefs from the San Francisco Bay Area to create recipes to complement the wine. Chefs can submit recipes in three different categories: appetizers, entrees and desserts.
A panel of Bay Area food and wine writers will judge the recipes based on taste, presentation and compatibility with the wine. All finalists must be prepared to recreate their entries for a minimum of 60 people at a dinner to benefit Food Runners, a local charity that relays food from businesses to shelters and neighborhood food programs.
Columbia Crest, one of America's most popular wineries, has gained a national reputation for its award-winning Merlot. The Wine Spectator, the industry's most influential publication, calls them "ripe, generous Merlots (sold) at eminently fair prices."
Prizes will be awarded to the top three finalists. The grand-prize winner will receive a trip for two to Washington wine country, including a tour and tasting at Columbia Crest with winemaker Doug Gore. The first-prize winner will receive a three-liter etched and painted bottle of 1990 Merlot. The second-prize winner will receive one pair of Columbia Crest skis.
All entries must be postmarked by Nov. 12. For information and entry forms, call 206-488-4682, or write to Columbia Crest Winery, Recipe Contest, P.O. Box 1976, Woodinville, WA 98072.
