 COLUMBIA CLOSES ST. FRANCIS HOSPITAL TRANSACTION;
 CONTINUES TO BUILD SOUTH FLORIDA HEALTHCARE SYSTEM
 FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Hospital Corporation (NASDAQ: CHOS) today announced that it has completed the purchase of 273-bed St. Francis Hospital in Miami Beach, Fla., and has renamed the facility Miami Beach Community Hospital.
 Miami Beach Community Hospital provides a full range of medical services, which include cardiovascular surgery and a growing obstetrics program. Columbia, as in its other acquisitions, intends to provide local physicians an opportunity to participate in the acquisition.
 With the acquisition, Columbia now owns five acute-care hospitals in South Florida, with 1,514 licensed beds, and various other facilities. "Miami Beach Community Hospital is an integral part of our strategy of becoming a significant, comprehensive provider of healthcare services in the South Florida market," said Richard L. Scott, chairman and chief executive officer of Columbia Hospital Corporation. He added, "By sharing certain services among facilities in the same market and offering a full range of services, we are able to reduce operating costs."
 Daniel J. Moen, recently appointed president of Columbia's South Florida division, commented, "Even with this significant consolidation, the South Florida market remains fragmented, offering many additional opportunities for expansion and growth."
 Columbia Hospital Corporation currently owns and manages 11 general, acute-care hospitals and two psychiatric hospitals, with 2,815 licensed beds in five markets. Columbia also owns various related businesses in its markets, including outpatient diagnostic centers, an outpatient surgery center, a cardiac rehabilitation/wellness center, mobile lithotripsy services and an outpatient radiation therapy center. Additionally, Columbia owns Sutter Corporation, a medical products company that manufactures and distributes medical and surgical products, primarily continuous passive motion devices.
