COLUMBIA ANNOUNCES LETTER OF INTENT TO ACQUIRE PEMBROKE PINES HOSPITAL IN FLORIDA; HOSPITAL TO BECOME 2ND COLUMBIA FACILITY IN BROWARD COUNTY

 FORT WORTH, Texas, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Hospital Corporation (NASDAQ: CHOS) today announced that it has signed a letter of intent to acquire Pembroke Pines Hospital, a 301-bed, acute-care hospital located in Pembroke Pines, Fla. (Broward County), from Galen Health Care, Inc. Work on the definitive purchase agreement, regulatory approval, and due diligence procedures will begin immediately. This acquisition will be a positive step in expanding Columbia's network in Broward County, which will allow it to deliver healthcare even more efficiently.
 "Columbia is very pleased to have reached this agreement," said David T. Vandewater, president and chief operating officer of Columbia. "We are excited about working with the hospital team, and think this facility is an excellent addition to Columbia."
 Columbia owns and operates 26 hospitals and related healthcare businesses primarily in five Texas and Florida markets, all structured in cooperative healthcare networks to reduce the costs of providing medical care. Columbia recently announced that it had signed a letter of intent to acquire Beaumont Medical and Surgical Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. Columbia's networks provide a wide array of inpatient and outpatient medical and psychiatric services in a variety of healthcare settings.
