COLORADO EXECUTIVES ELECTED TO FIRST BANK SYSTEM BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 MINNEAPOLIS, July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Will F. Nicholson, Jr. and Nicholas R. Petry have been elected to the board of directors of First Bank System, Inc. (NYSE: FBS). Nicholson is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Colorado National Bankshares, First Bank System's Colorado banking subsidiary. Petry is president of The Petry Company, a diversified operations and investment company and managing partner of N.G. Petry Construction Company, a general contractor/management company, both of Denver.
 First Bank System chairman, president and chief executive officer John F. Grundhofer said, "We now have three directors from Colorado on our board, which is indicative of our commitment to the state and its importance to First Bank System." Richard L. Robinson, chairman and chief executive officer of Robinson Dairy, Inc. of Denver was elected to the board in January. FBS' Colorado banks had approximately $8 billion in assets at June 30, 1993. The FBS board is composed of 16 directors.
 Nicholson also serves on the boards of Public Service Company of Colorado and Visa U.S.A. Inc. Petry currently serves on the board of Pogo Producing Company and is a director emeritus of Eaton Corp., Public Service Company of Colorado, UAL Corp. and Westin Hotels. Petry had served as an independent member of the Colorado National board of directors prior to the bank being acquired by FBS.
 First Bank System is a regional bank holding company headquartered in Minneapolis with assets of $25.6 billion. The company provides complete financial services to individuals and institutions through 21 banks and other financial companies with more than 220 offices, primarily in Minnesota, Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
