COLLINS & AIKMAN OKLAHOMA PLANT RECEIVES GM MARK OF EXCELLENCE
CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Collins & Aikman's Automotive Division plant at Clinton, Oklahoma has received General Motors' highest award, the Mark of Excellence. The trophy is in recognition of the plant and company performance, achieving exemplary marks in quality, cost, delivery, technology and leadership capabilities.
The presentation marks the third such award garnered during 1991 by company plants which serve the automotive industry. The Oklahoma plant, built in 1974, produces mold-formed carpets, luggage compartment liners and soft trim parts for General Motors.
Greg Padley, manager of supplier assessment development for General Motors, says that of eight thousand suppliers only 331 -- 4 percent -- have won the Mark of Excellence. "What does this really mean, other than winning a plaque to hang in the display area?" he asks. "To General Motors it assures your ability to compete -- and ours, too. The Mark of Excellence is just a start. It's certainly the right start: It tells General Motors that you're on your way."
Joe Paglialunga, TFE audit team leader, says of the plant and its employees: "Your commitment to excellence drives you to continuous improvement of your products. We realize that you would never be satisfied with second place."
John Moose, president of Collins & Aikman's Automotive Product Group, credits "a corporate-wide commitment to excellence with providing an environment that fosters world class performance. We are very proud of our associates at Clinton and our operations in Farmville, N.C., and Lacolle, Quebec that have received Marks of Excellence from General Motors. Those awards serve as a constant reminder to us all of the need for continual improvement. There is no security in past performance. Any company that intends to compete in the world's marketplace must excel in all areas."
