COLLINS & AIKMAN BUYS MEXICAN COMPANY

 ALBEMARLE, N.C., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Collins & Aikman has purchased the assets of Tapetes Automotrices Mexicanos SA de CV (Tamex), manufacturer and fabricator of automotive carpet. Tamex operates plants in Monterey and Mexico City. The company will continue to supply existing customers, operating under the name of Collins & Aikman de Mexico SA de CV, C&A's newly formed Mexican subsidiary.
 The purchase is in addition to Collins & Aikman's recently announced automotive products plant now under construction at Queretaro, Mexico. Juan Haro, formerly of Tamex, has been named director general of the new company.
 Collins & Aikman is North America's premiere producer of automotive upholstery, carpets and soft trim parts.
