COLLINS & AIKMAN BUILDING PLANT IN MEXICO

ALBEMARLE, N.C., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Collins & Aikman Corporation has broken ground on an automotive products plant in Queretaro, Mexico. The plant will produce molded carpet and other products for automotive plants located in Mexico.
The announcement comes from John D. Moose, president of the company's North American Automotive Products Group, which will operate the 100,000 square foot facility.
"This is a logical extension of our very strong focus on the North American automotive market. We have been a major factor in the U.S. and Canadian sectors for 75 years," Moose says.
"Mexico is a ready market for our products," he explains. "Many of our customers -- U.S. and foreign automotive manufacturers -- have established assembly plants there. To help them meet Mexican government demands for domestic content, we are making a multimillion dollar investment in Queretaro."
Cubarsa, a Gutsa company based in Mexico City, is responsible for construction. The plant is expected to be in operation by late winter.
Collins & Aikman is a leading producer of specialty textiles and wall coverings.
