COLLEGE ROUNDUP: CSUN MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS FULLERTON.

Taylor Canel had a goal and an assist as the Cal State Northridge men's soccer team defeated host Cal State Fullerton 2-1 in a Big West Conference game Wednesday.

Dylan Riley put away a Canel pass to tie the score 1-1 in the 69th minute for the Matadors. Ten minutes later Canel scored the game winner, for CSUN (4-3-4, 2-0-2).

The Titans (4-6-1, 0-3-0) took a 1-0 lead early, when Amir Shafii scored in the 13th minute.

About two minutes later the Matadors dodged a bullet, when Shafii's shot was deflected by CSUN goalkeeper Kevin Guppy and hit the crossbar, nearly giving Fullerton a two goal lead.

Women's soccer: Lauren Wiley scored on an assist from Erica Jahn as Redlands defeated visiting Cal Lutheran 1-0 in SCIAC play. ... Jessica Schoepke and Katie Rhodes each scored for visiting Westmont in a 2-1 win over the Master's College. Melissa Freeman scored the only goal for the Master's in a GSAC game.

Men's tennis: UCLA singles player Chris Surapol defefated Luis Diaz Barriga of Texas 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the qualifying round at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

Men's water polo: Cutberto Hernandez, Brian McShane and Julien Lormant each scored twice as Loyola Marymount defeated visiting UC Irvine 7-5 in nonconference play.
