Dear Coleen, I WORK in a quiet office with five other people. One of my colleagues is constantly sniffing and burping, and when he eats fruit at his desk the room is filled with the sound of slurping.

I find it absolutely disgusting and it's driving me mad. We have quite a tense relationship anyway, so how can I resolve this? Coleen says...

I'M not sure you can.

Every time he burps or eats like a pig, you might have to just point it out and hopefully other people will back you up - maybe have a quiet word with them first to see if they feel the same way.

I'm not sure he'll respond to you saying, "Is there any chance you can eat quietly?" You might have to be more obvious.

Alternatively, make the office less silent by having a radio playing to drown out his belching and slurping.
