COLIN MURRAY'S MUSIC: THE BLUES BROTHERS; US newboys Leon keep it in the family.
THEY say they like to keep it in the family in certain parts of America, and that's certainly true in this case.
Kings Of Leon are three brothers from Tennessee called Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill. There is another member, who also happens to be related - cousin Matthew Followill.
And in these four men we have the cool media's idea of the best and brightest new thing in music - a band whose blues up and blessed out brand of rock'n'roll earns them comparisons with the Stones and the Strokes.
Lucky, then, that I'm not cool media and I'd place them as a new guitar band that impress in terms of youth and vitality, but are by no means the finished article. Not yet, anyway.
Youth and Young Manhood is the album and on it you'll find the singles Molly's Chambers, Holy Roller Novocaine and Red Morning Light and, also, a lot of tracks that appeared on an EP they released long before the album.
There was a rumour that the lead singer from the Mavericks had a hand in helping them write tracks,.
But surely if he can write music for Kings Of Leon, the Mavericks wouldn't be such a bad, annoying freak of music.
Well, regardless of the ins and outs of this band, you can see them when they hit Ireland as part of a massive tour.
So far they have confirmed Dublin's Olympia Theatre for December 16 and I hear that a Belfast date is being sorted, with the likely outcome being a show on December 15.
No doubt the hype surrounding Kings Of Leon will see to it that these dates are jammed solid.
Hopefully, some of their more mundane tracks on the album will spark into life when performed live.
