COGNITRONICS EXPECTS LOWER INCOME FROM CONTINUING OPERATIONS

STAMFORD, Conn., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Cognitronics Corporation (AMEX: CGN) said today that it expects 1993 income from continuing operations to be significantly less than 1992, citing delays in the completion of two new McIAS voice processing systems coupled with its previously announced increased spending on research and development and marketing programs.
In addition, a slowdown in orders for another McIAS system from a switch manufacturer -- because of a temporary oversupply -- has impacted second quarter revenues and income from continuing operations and is expected to continue to do so in the third quarter.
Nevertheless, the company expects total 1993 sales to be higher than those achieved in 1992. Sales in 1992 totaled $16.2 million, and income from continuing operations was equal to $.59 a share.
Cognitronics is a leading manufacturer and supplier of voice processing equipment, including telephone network and call management announcement products and interactive voice response (IVR) systems, to telephone operating companies, original equipment manufacturers and commercial end-users.
