COEUR D'ALENE MINES NAMES NEW DIRECTOR

 COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho, July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Jeffrey T. Grade, chairman and chief executive officer of Harnischfeger Industries Inc. (NYSE: HPH) has been named to serve on the board of directors of Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp. (NYSE: CDE; PSE) Dennis E. Wheeler, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Coeur announced today.
 Grade has been with Harnischfeger Industries since 1983, when he served as senior vice president and chief financial officer. He subsequently held the positions of president and chief operating officer, and in 1991 was named chief executive officer. He received the title of chairman of the board in January 1993. Grade received a bachelor of science degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and a master's degree of Business Administration from DePaul University.
 Harnischfeger Industries Inc., headquartered in Brookfield, Wis., is a holding company engaged, through wholly-owned subsidiaries, in the manufacture of surface mining and material handling equipment; the manufacture of paper-making machinery; computerized information systems and engineering services.
 Wheeler said, "We welcome Jeffrey Grade to the board of directors. His knowledge of the mining industry and experience in Harnischfeger operations in several foreign countries will provide valuable counsel to Coeur d'Alene Mines as the company expands its activities."
 Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp. is a precious metals mining company with mines in Nevada, Idaho and New Zealand and developmental projects in Alaska and Chile.
