COCA-COLA USA SPONSORS EARTH TRAIN'S JOURNEY
TO MOTIVATE YOUNG AMERICANS TO HELP PROTECT FUTURE OF PLANET
Whistle-stop Tour Features 150 Teens, Environmental Forums
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- On Sept. 21, Coca-Cola USA and more than 150 youth leaders will help launch Earth Train USA, a cross- country journey committed to promoting a single ideal: do the right things for the future of the planet, environmentally and socially.
Atlanta-based Coca-Cola USA today announced its sponsorship of Earth Train and the 150 teens from the United States and at least 16 countries, including Russia, Croatia and the African country of Tanzania. The 14-car train will pull out from Los Angeles, making stops in San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, New York and complete the run in the nation's capital.
"Earth Train is a creative concept which allows young people from around the world to do something positive for the environment," said Pierre Ferrari, senior vice president of Marketing for Coca-Cola USA.
Along the way, Coca-Cola USA and Hyatt Hotels will sponsor forums conducted by the youth leaders to show their peers how to get involved in local projects to help protect the environment. Coca-Cola USA also has produced a giant 12-foot-by-24-foot banner for those attending the forums to sign and take the Earth Train Pledge: "I pledge to help create a better tomorrow...today."
"Earth Train will help focus attention on the need for innovation and leadership in addressing environmental issues," Ferrari said. "For this reason, Earth Train was a natural fit for our sponsorship."
In addition, Coca-Cola USA has long been committed to environmental innovation. For example, the company introduced in 1991 the first plastic soft drink bottle made with recycled plastic, a package which earned the company the 1992 Discover Award for technological innovation in the environmental category.
"Coca-Cola USA fundamentally believes that the best possible environment for our success...is the best possible environment," Ferrari added.
