 COCA-COLA USA EXTENDS ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT
 WITH TENNESSEE AQUARIUM SPONSORSHIP
ATLANTA, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Coca-Cola USA announced today it has become a major sponsor of the world's first freshwater life center -- the Tennessee Aquarium -- to support programs to educate consumers on freshwater ecology.
The multi-year partnership encompasses the development of school programs designed to help teachers and students learn about freshwater life and environments.
"Coca-Cola USA believes education is a key element in finding solutions to today's environmental problems," said M. Douglas Ivester, president of Coca-Cola USA. "By sponsoring this first-of-its-kind facility, we are encouraging consumers to learn responsible use of the environment we live in."
The $45 million facility is the world's first major institution dedicated to freshwater ecosystems. The aquarium is located on the banks of the Tennessee River in downtown Chattanooga, Tenn. It is scheduled to open May 1.
Educational programs supported by Coca-Cola USA include elementary, middle and high school student kits and teachers' guides encompassing study of species featured in the aquarium and on freshwater ecology.
The Tennessee Aquarium sponsorship represents a significant contribution by Coca-Cola USA to the city of Chattanooga and the study of the natural environment, but it is not the first. The Company also sponsors Baylor University's "River Quest" program. River Quest teaches ecology and appreciation for the natural environment to inner- city youth.
"Our corporate partners have been a driving force in transforming the Tennessee Aquarium from dream to reality," said William Flynn, president of the Tennessee Aquarium.
Coca-Cola USA and the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Chattanooga also will be involved in a three-day river festival celebrating the grand opening of the facility May 1 to 3. During the festival, aquarium visitors will be able to enjoy Coca-Cola products as they experience cultures representing each of seven regions represented in the aquarium's "rivers of the world" exhibit.
