COASTAL EXECUTIVE NAMED CHAIRMAN OF ASPHALT INSTITUTE

 HOUSTON, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Orin A. Sharp Jr. was recently elected chairman of the board of directors of the Asphalt Institute at its 73rd annual meeting in Indian Wells, Calif., the Institute announced today. He is vice president of asphalt marketing for Coastal Refining & Marketing, Inc. of Houston. He succeeds Ronald L. Rupp, division manager for wholesale marketing, Marathon Oil Company.
 Mr. Sharp began his asphalt career as a field sales representative for Exxon in Everett, Mass. After a number of varied assignments, he transferred to Houston as Exxon's asphalt marketing advisor. In 1974 he joined Gulf States Asphalt Company as marketing vice president. After becoming president and CEO of Gulf States Asphalt, he joined Coastal as asphalt director, and was later named vice president of asphalt marketing.
 He has served as both alternate and primary director, and as treasurer and vice chairman of the board of directors for the Asphalt Institute. He has served as a member of the finance committee and the personnel advisory committee. He is active in the Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association, the Asphalt Recycling and Reclaiming Association, and the National Asphalt Pavement Association, as well as in various state hot-mix associations.
 Mr. Sharp is a native of Union City, N.J., and a graduate of Newark College of Engineering. He and his wife, Marjorie, have two sons and reside in Kingwood, Texas. When not developing new and wider markets for asphalt, Mr. Sharp enjoys hunting and golf.
 In further action, the Asphalt Institute board of directors elected Tom F. Reynolds, area manager for Midwest asphalt sales for Amoco Oil Company, as vice chairman, and Sheree L. Gehman, asphalt manager for Exxon Company, U.S.A., as treasurer.
