COAS to brief Senate Committee of the Whole House on 19th.
ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa will brief the Senate Committee of the Whole House on Tuesday (December 19) on the matters pertaining to national security.According to a notice issued in this regard, the committee will begin its meeting at 10 AM and the COAS and Military Operations DG would brief members on the emerging national security paradigm for Pakistan with respect to recent visits and developments.
The Committee of the Whole House was formed 'to prepare policy guidelines in light of the emerging regional realities and the role of the United States.'After US President Donald Trump accused Pakistan of harbouring terrorists and unveiled his policy for South Asia, in which India was given a greater role, the relations between both countries have suffered.
Many officials have urged Pakistan to "do more" in the fight against terrorism after the Trump speech.US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson visited the country recently to meet the civil-military leadership and put forth the same demand.
Later, Rex Tillerson had said he does not enjoy the task of dealing with countries like Pakistan and North Korea. He also said that relations with Pakistan, which he termed an important and valued partner, had drifted and had to be brought back to one of common interest.
Pakistan also strongly condemned Trump's recent decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
