CAERNARFON was treated to the UK's first unveiling of a giant installation of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmanent's logo celebrating its 60th anniversary.

The unsuspecting public looked on in puzzlement as a white van arrived at the town's Maes around 3pm yesterday and huge grey-coloured CND letters and its iconic logo were duly unveiled and installed.

It was there for around an hour before being taken down and taken to Mold for a similar showing.

CND spokeswoman Sara Medi Jones, from Llangefni, said: "We are here in Caernarfon to mark CND's 60th anniversary and to remind people that we are still campaigning against the use of nuclear weapons.

"Caernarfon has a long history of people protesting and CND was happy to launch its tour here. We spoke to a number of people on Y Maes about how relevant is our work and the response was very positive."

The installation will now be taken and unveiled at Llandudno.
