CNC band saw cuts sheet with less waste.
The MZ Project Band Sawing Center from Solid Wood Systems, Inc., High Point, N.C., combines a three-axis CNC band saw with a five-spindle, point-to-point boring unit for fast and efficient cutting of plastic sheet and panels. The MZ cuts difficult ([+ or -] 90[degrees] inclination) parts and handles stacks of multiple sheets up to 6 in. thick. The MZ Project reportedly reduces waste with a kerf of only 1.5 mm (0.06 in.), while CNC routers often have kerfs of 0.375 to 0.75 in., the company says. Optional Alphacam software can import "profiles" generated by a digitizer or DXF files from AutoCAD. Data are displayed on the unit's 10-in. color monitor.
