CN NORTH AMERICA OFFICIALS TO HOLD PRESS BRIEFING
REGARDING BUILDING OF $155 MILLION RAILWAY TUNNEL
Media representatives are invited to meet CN North America's officials at a press briefing concerning the company's decision to build a $155 million railway tunnel under the St. Clair River between Port Huron, Mich., and Sarnia, Ontario.
Duplicate briefings are being scheduled for your convenience on Monday, April 13, in the U.S. and Canada. After each briefing, media representatives will have an opportunity to ride a hi-rail car into the tunnel which CN North America presently operates, to give a flavor for the magnitude of this project. Hi-rail vehicles are highway vehicles which are equipped with both rubber tires and flanged steel wheels which convert to rail travel.
Duncan MacLennan, chief of construction; Bob Schellig, corporate general manager; and "J.Q." Anders, chief of design and construction, U.S. properties, will be on hand to answer any questions regarding the impact on the communities in Canada and the United States.
The first briefing will be at: CN North America's Sarnia Carload Centre Monday, April 13, at 8:30 a.m.
Media representatives then will be taken to the site of the new tunnel portal. From there, media will have an opportunity to board the hi-rail equipment for a ride into the tunnel now in use, with a photo opportunity at the site of the international marker located about halfway through the tunnel. Media will be back at the Carload Centre by 11:15 a.m.
If more convenient, media may wish to attend the duplicate briefing at 1 p.m. at the Thomas Edison Inn in Port Huron. CN North America will repeat the tunnel excursion and return to the Edison Inn at approximately 3:45 p.m.
Because of the logistics and limited space, media are asked to RSVP to 313-396-6046, or fax responses to 313-396-6171.
NOTE: Media representatives can receive maps by fax providing directions to the Sarnia Carload Centre or Thomas Edison Inn. To obtain these maps, CONTACT: Gary Jones, 313-396-6586, or Gloria Combe, 313-396-6574, both of CN North America.
