CMS EXPANDS FAMILY OF PORTABLE DESKTOP BACKUP AND STORAGE SOLUTIONS.

Moving into the enterprise and network removable storage arena, CMS Peripherals(R), has expanded their Desktop Automatic Backup System (ABS) for Windows(R) 98 and 2000 users to include 40GB and 60GB capacity solutions.

Using a hot pluggable USB interface, the ABS delivers up to 1.5 Mbytes/second performance, offering users a stable, high data throughput for backup, additional storage and file recovery. The USB interface also enables users to backup and share files among multiple USB-enabled notebooks, desktops and workstations. Once connected, the unit's exclusive patent-pending "Automatic Launcher" technology initiates either a full or incremental backup as designated by the user or IT manager.

Current workplace trends call for resources that support flexible data interchange, backup, archive and migration of data with a low total cost of ownership (TCO). In today's enterprise environments, user data is mission critical, storage requirements continue to surpass hard drive and server capacity, and a decentralizing workforce is making demands for more flexible tools. As a result, IT and MIS staffs are finding that removable mass storage is an important resource and solutions such as CMS' ABS, are filling the network storage gaps.

The desktop ABS can also provide enough external storage to more than double a PC's life-cycle, run "occasional use" applications, organize data by project, client, template or application, as well as decrease network traffic/network infrastructure requirements.

The Automatic Backup System for the desktop is available now in capacities of 20GB, 30GB, 40GB and 60GBcapacities with a 3-year warranty. Estimated street prices (ESP) start at $399. Solutions are available through major distributors, corporate resellers, mail order and direct from the company's Web site, www.cmsproducts.com.
