 DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE: CMS) today announced the appointment of John M. McLaughlin Jr. as vice president, business development for CMS Enterprises Company, its non-utility business unit.
 In this position, he will be responsible for developing opportunities related to CMS' independent power, oil and gas, and gas pipeline and storage businesses. He will also continue his oversight responsibilities for CMS Energy's investor relations program.
 McLaughlin had been executive director of strategic planning and investor relations for CMS Energy and was also responsible for international development of power projects. Most recently he helped structure the Latin Power Fund, a targeted $500 million fund whose purpose is to invest in energy assets throughout Latin America and is managed by Scudder, Stevens & Clark, Inc. McLaughlin also managed CMS Generation's successful acquisition of an operating interest in the El Chocon hydroelectric power station in Argentina, now that nation's largest hydro facility.
 McLaughlin joined Consumers Power Company, CMS Energy's principal subsidiary, in 1984 after six years as legal counsel at Patrick Petroleum of Jackson, Mich. Prior to joining Patrick, he was in private practice.
 McLaughlin earned a law degree from Wayne State University, an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelors degree from Albion College.
 He is a member of various civic associations in the Jackson area including the Breakfast Rotary Club and is past president of a Jackson- area non-profit retirement community. He is also a board member of the Dahlem Environmental Education Center in Jackson.
 He, his wife, Cathie, and their two children live in Jackson.
