CMS ENERGY UNIT REPORTS RESULTS OF WELL PRODUCTION TESTING IN NEW GUINEA
DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- NOMECO Oil & Gas Co., a unit of CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE: CMS), announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, NOMECO PNG Oil Co., and other joint venturers, have obtained results of extended production testing of the S.E. Gobe No. 2 appraisal well in Papua, New Guinea. During the test, the well was flowed from the Iagifu Sandstone formation on various choke sizes through 5 1/2-inch tubing. The well achieved a stabilized rate of 8,907 barrels of oil per day through two concurrent chokes of 1 1/2 and 1 3/8 inches.
Richard J. Burgess, NOMECO's chief executive officer, said the S.E. Gobe No. 2 has achieved the highest stabilized flow rate of any well in which NOMECO has participated in its 24-year history, and added that the joint venture believes the stabilized flow rate to be the highest for any well in Papua.
At the end of the test period, the well will be shut in to gather further pressure data, after which the well will be temporarily suspended pending consideration of field appraisal and development options of the joint venture.
The S.E. Gobe No. 2 is located about one mile east southeast of the S.E. Gobe No. 1, the original discovery well in the field. The S.E. Gobe No. 1 was tested earlier in 1991 at a rate of 4,250 barrels of oil per day from the Iagfu Sandstone formation. Both wells were drilled on Petroleum Prospecting License (PPL) 56 covering about 1.5 million acres in the Southern Highlands of Papua.
NOMECO has an 8.4-percent interest in PPL 56, 7 percent directly and an additional 1.4 percent through its 7-percent ownership of Command Petroleum Holdings N.L. The other joint ventures are Command Petroleum Holdings N.L., the operator, through its wholly owned subsidiary Luderick Pty. Ltd., 20 percent; Southern Highlands Petroleum Co., Ltd., 50.5 percent; Barracuda Pty. Ltd., 20 percent; and Mountains West Exploration, Inc., 2.5 percent.
