CMS ENERGY UNIT'S SUBSIDIARY ANNOUNCES DRILL AND TEST SUCCESS
ON SECOND APPRAISAL WELL IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA
DEARBORN, Mich., April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- CMS Energy Corporation's oil and gas exploration unit, NOMECO Oil & Gas Co., announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, NOMECO PNG Oil Co., and other consortium members have successfully drilled and tested their second appraisal well, S.E. Gobe No. 3, in Papua New Guinea. A drill stem test over the Iagifu Sandstone interval between 7,100 feet and 7,320 feet flowed at a stabilized rate of 3,560 barrels of oil per day on a 1.3-inch choke. The oil gravity was 45 degrees A.P.I.
The S.E. Gobe No. 3 is located six-tenths of a mile northwest of the S.E. Gobe No. 1, the original discovery well in the field. The S.E. Gobe No. 1 and No. 2 wells were tested earlier in 1991 at rates of 4,250 and 8,907 barrels of oil per day, respectively, from the Iagifu Sandstone formation. The three wells were drilled on Petroleum Prospecting License (PPL) 56 covering about 1.5 million acres in the Southern Highlands of Papua New Guinea.
At the end of the test period, the S.E. Gobe No. 3 well will be shut in to gather further pressure data, after which the well will be temporarily suspended pending consideration of field appraisal and development options of the consortium.
NOMECO has an 8.1-percent interest in PPL 56, 7 percent directly and an additional 1.1 percent through its 5.5-percent ownership of Command Petroleum Holdings N.L. The other consortium members are Barracuda Pty. Ltd., the operator; 20 percent Southern Highlands Petroleum Co., Ltd., 50.5 percent; Command Petroleum Holdings N.L., through its wholly owned subsidiary Luderick Pty. Ltd., 20 percent; and Mountains West Exploration, Inc., 2.5 percent.
NOMECO is among the top 100 oil and gas companies in production and reserves, and is Michigan's largest independent oil and gas producer. It is engaged in exploration and/or production activities in 11 states and nine foreign countries.
CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE: CMS) is a $3 billion (sales) diversified energy company with businesses engaged in the distribution of electricity and natural gas, interstate storage and transmission of natural gas, oil and gas exploration and production, independent power generation and utility services.
