CMS ENERGY CORPORATION ELECTS KENNETH WHIPPLE TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- CMS Energy Corporation (NYSE: CMS) announced today that Kenneth Whipple, 58, was elected to its board of directors, and also to the board of its principal subsidiary, Consumers Power Company. Whipple is executive vice president of Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) and president of the Ford Financial Services Group.
 In announcing Whipple's election, William T. McCormick Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of CMS Energy, said, "Ken Whipple's strong financial background and broad business experience will provide additional strength to the CMS Energy board."
 Whipple has previously served as chairman and chief executive officer of Ford of Europe, Inc., and president of Ford Motor Credit Company. He joined Ford in 1958 and held a number of systems and financial management positions on the corporate finance staff and at Ford Credit before being named assistant controller - international for the parent company in 1974.
 In 1984, Whipple was elected a Ford Motor Company vice president and appointed head of corporate strategy. He became chairman of Ford of Europe in 1986.
 Whipple is chairman of the board of directors of the United Way for Southeastern Michigan, and also serves as vice chairman of the board of WTVS-TV, the public television station in Detroit. He is a member of the board of governors of the World Economic Forum and a member of the board of trustees for Detroit Country Day School. Whipple earned a bachelor's degree in business and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
