CMS ANNOUNCES THIRD-QUARTER EARNINGS

 CMS ANNOUNCES THIRD-QUARTER EARNINGS
DEARBORN, Mich., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- CMS Energy Corporation

(NYSE: CMS) today announced net income of $10 million, or 13 cents per share, in the third quarter of 1992, compared to $29 million, or 36 cents per share in the third quarter of 1991.
For the first nine months of 1992, net income was $75 million, or 94 cents per share, compared to a loss of $147 million, or $1.84 per share, for the same period in 1991.
Third-quarter operating revenue was $599 million compared to $619 million in the third quarter of 1991. Year-to-date operating revenue was $2.23 billion compared to $2.24 billion in 1991.
Third-quarter and year-to-date revenues and earnings continue to reflect the negative impact of the undercollection from electric customers of capacity rates paid by Consumers Power for power purchased from the Midland Cogeneration Venture. However, a proposed settlement that could resolve this matter has been filed with the Michigan Public Service Commission and is currently being considered.
Revenues and earnings also were impacted by lower electric sales by Consumers Power which were 7.98 billion kilowatt hours in the quarter, down about 6 percent from the same period in 1991 due mainly to cool summer weather. Natural gas deliveries for the quarter were also down 4.6 percent from the previous year.
CMS Energy Corporation is a $3 billion (sales) diversified energy company with businesses engaged in the distribution of electricity and natural gas, interstate storage and transmission of natural gas, oil and gas exploration and production, independent power generation and utility services. CMS Energy Corporation's principal subsidiary is Consumers Power Company, Michigan's largest utility and the nation's fourth- largest combination electric and gas utility.
