CM Sindh inaugrates annual Khairpur Date Exhibition.
KARACHI -- The 7th 2-day International Annual Khairpur Date Exhibition and Seminar-2015 was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah here at Shah Abdul Latif University Sauturday.
The exhibition was jointly organized by District Administration, Khairpur and Date Palm Research Institute, SALU, Khairpur.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that date is the major product of the Khairpur district. It is a good idea for holding this kind of seminar.
He appreciated the efforts of the University administration for promoting the tissue culture at the DPRI.
He pointed out that better packing and quality of dates can help generate more revenue for the country.
He said, Sindh has rich resources in agriculture sector. Now, we have 800,000 tons of wheat in surplus.
He said that the sampling that he saw earlier in DPRI at SALU are now bearing fruits.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah said, the government has established nine Universities in Sindh, this illustrates our commitment with higher education.
Chief Minister said, we have opened more than 6,000 schools, which remained closed previously. He stressed for the promotion of quality education in the primary education sector.
Qaim Ali Shah also inaugurated the Building of Faculty of Management Sciences, built at a cost of Rs 112 million and Date Palm Research Institute Building costing Rs. 38.5 million. He also laid the foundation stone of Shah Abdul Latif University Housing Society and announced Rs. 3 billion for its development.
Prof. Dr. Parveen Shah, Vice Chancellor, SALU, Khairpur presented the academic and development scenario of the University in her speech.
Dr. Shah said, Universities cannot run on ad-hoc basis. She revealed that for the first time in the history of University, we have designed 5-year strategic plan which covers all aspects of academics, research, governance, finance, curriculum, Method of Delivery, Recognition and Certification, Industry Linkages, Strengthening Under-Graduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral Programs.
Dr. Shah said, Students Start-up Business Center has been established to motivate students towards self-employment. Only 9 universities have been selected from entire country and SALU is one of them.
