CLOTHESTIME TO ADDRESS AGGRESSIVE GROWTH STOCK CONFERENCE, JUNE 3
ANAHEIM, Calif., May 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Clothestime Inc. (NASDAQ: CTME) will address the financial community at Paine Webber's upcoming Aggressive Growth Stock Conference in New York on Wednesday, June 3, at 4 p.m., announced Norman Abramson, president and chief operating officer of Clothestime.
Abramson's presentation will provide analysts and institutional investors with detailed information about Clothestime's financial position and outline the company's plans for growth.
According to Paine Webber, the invitation to participate is extended to a select few companies. It comes on the heels of Clothestime's recent announcement of a 10 percent increase in comparable store sales for the month of May 1992 on top of a 15 percent increase for the same period last year. The company has now reported 19 consecutive months of comparable store sales increases. In April, the company saw its best first quarter earnings since 1987.
Net income for the first quarter ended April 25, 1992, was $1.0 million, which resulted in a 94 percent increase over last year's net income of $522,000.
Clothestime's sales for the quarter were $68.3 million, a 20 percent increase over $56.8 million for the same period last year. Comparable store sales for the quarter increased 11 percent. Earnings per share were $0.07, compared with $0.04 for the same period last year.
In addition, for the 12 months of fiscal 1991 (year ending January 1992), Clothestime reported a 14 percent increase in comparable store sales.
"We are pleased to be included in this conference, because it affords us the opportunity to personally answer questions and explain the dynamics of our business," Abramson said. "The management and operational changes we've instituted over the past couple of years had a specific purpose in mind. We believe our improved financial position is the result of these adjustments."
Clothestime has opened 35 new stores to date this year and plans to open another 30, bringing the company total to approximately 466 by fiscal year-end.
The Clothestime Inc. operates 436 women's apparel stores in 18 states, offering primarily in-season, moderately priced sportswear, dresses and accessories, emphasizing brand names at a substantial discount from the more upscale department and specialty stores.
