 CLIFFORD ALEXANDER RESIGNS FROM
PENNSYLVANIA POWER & LIGHT CO.'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS
ALLENTOWN, Pa., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Power & Light Co.'s (NYSE: PPL) (PP&L) board of directors today accepted "with regret" the resignation of Clifford L. Alexander Jr., a PP&L director for more than 15 years, it was announced.
"We will certainly miss Cliff Alexander," said PP&L Chairman John T. Kauffman. "He was with us during the critical years we were building and bringing our Susquehanna nuclear units into service. He has made significant contributions to the board over an extended number of years. We will miss his counsel and his friendship."
Alexander first joined PP&L's board in 1972 and served until January 1977, when he resigned to become secretary of the Army during the Carter administration. He rejoined the board in 1981 and served an additional 10 years. Alexander, 58, is president of Alexander & Associates Inc., a managing consulting firm based in Washington.
His resignation was effective Dec. 31, 1991. A new director is not being appointed at this time. Following its vote Wednesday to accept Alexander's resignation, the board passed a resolution reducing the number of members to 14.
PP&L supplies electricity to a 10,000 square-mile area of 29 counties in central eastern Pennsylvania. Among the communities it serves are Allentown, Bethlehem, Harrisburg, Hazleton, Lancaster, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and Williamsport.
