CLEARLY CANADIAN BEVERAGE CORP. EXPANDS MEXICAN DISTRIBUTION

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Clearly Canadian Beverage Corp. (NASDAQ: CLCDF; Vancouver: CLV) today announced expansion in the Mexican market with the signing of a distribution agreement between Natural Beverage of Tucson, Ariz., the master licensee of Clearly Canadian Beverage Corp. in Mexico, and Grupo Embotellador de Mexico (Gemex), S.A. de C.V., Mexico City.
Under the multiyear agreement, which begins on July 1, 1993, Gemex will distribute Clearly Canadian beverages throughout Mexico City, Acapulco, Cancun and other parts of Southern Mexico. In the first year, Gemex is committed to distributing 1,274,500 cases of Clearly Canadian. The program will be supported by a $1.6 million (U.S.) advertising campaign.
The agreement complements Clearly Canadian's successful Mexican distribution efforts which began in Monterrey in November 1992. Retail and consumer acceptance, according to Clearly Canadian management, has been strong throughout the region, with product being sold in most grocery and convenience stores.
"As the largest Pepsi bottler outside of the United States, we want to expand our share of the fast growing New Age beverage market," said Ruben Pietropaolo, president and chief executive officer of Gemex. "This alliance marries an outstanding sales and distribution force with a superb product. Clearly Canadian is a perfect fit with our existing product line."
Added Douglas L. Mason, chairman and chief executive officer of Clearly Canadian, "This is a giant step toward our becoming a global leader. Expanding our international distribution is a major objective of Clearly Canadian Beverage Corp. Gemex has an outstanding reputation and is presently the largest independent Pepsi bottler in the world. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship."
Clearly Canadian Beverage Corp. produces and markets Clearly Canadian(TM), a line of natural mineral waters and flavored sparkling water beverages. Through distribution agreements Clearly Canadian is sold throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, Great Britain and Ireland, the Caribbean and Mexico.
