CLARK EQUIPMENT ELECTS CHAPMAN TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 SOUTH BEND, Ind., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Clark Equipment Company (NYSE: CKL) announced today that James C. Chapman, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Outboard Marine Corp., was elected as a member of the Clark board of directors. The Clark board has been increased in size to eight.
 Chapman joined Outboard Marine in 1978, as director of manufacturing. In 1985, he was elected president and chief operating officer, and in 1990 became president and chief executive officer. He assumed the additional position of chairman earlier this year.
 Prior to joining Outboard Marine, Chapman was director of facilities at Rockwell International and manager of manufacturing and engineering at Chrysler Corp.
 Chapman, 62, graduated from the University of Detroit with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1956 and a Master of Business Administration in 1965.
 Clark Equipment Company's business is the design, manufacture, and sale of skid-steer loaders, construction machinery, transmissions for on-highway vehicles, and axles and transmissions for off-highway equipment.
