CLARIS ANNOUNCES FILEMAKER PRO 2.0 SUPPORT FOR QUICKTIME FOR WINDOWS;
 IMPORTANT STEP IN CROSS-PLATFORM MANAGEMENT OF VIDEO, SOUND
 SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Claris Corp. today announced that FileMaker Pro 2.0 for Windows database management software will support QuickTime(TM) for Windows, introduced today by Apple Computer Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: AAPL).
 The Macintosh(R) version of FileMaker Pro 2.0, the number one Macintosh database, already supports QuickTime.
 With the QuickTime Player in both versions of the application, FileMaker Pro 2.0 will be able to embed QuickTime images in specific fields in a database, and even share those images across Macintosh and Windows networks.
 Claris said QuickTime for Windows is an important step forward in cross-platform database management. While storing text and numbers is vital, users' definition of "data" is expanding to include sound, graphics and video.
 With its superior graphical user interface and sophisticated database power, FileMaker Pro 2.0 provides the tools, high-quality output and immediate productivity that Windows users most want. Since no programming knowledge is required, even new users can be immediately productive -- yet power is not sacrificed for ease of use.
 The QuickTime Player allows FileMaker Pro 2.0 to display or play QuickTime movies in a database field by using "pointers" to the QuickTime images. This means that FileMaker Pro 2.0 can efficiently manage many megabytes of QuickTime images without the overhead of actually incorporating these images into the database. More importantly, FileMaker Pro 2.0 fully maintains top performance levels while handling large multi-media data structures.
 Claris said a revision to FileMaker Pro 2.0 for Windows, sometime in 1993, will add QuickTime for Windows capabilities.
 A Breakthrough in Cross-Platform Computing
 For the increasing number of businesses where sharing information among PCs and Macintosh systems is crucial, Claris has defined a new standard for how applications should work cross-platform. The Windows and Macintosh versions share 85 percent common source code and are designed to look and work alike. This has enabled the greatest possible interoperability and makes support and training much easier than for any other cross-platform applications.
 FileMaker Pro 2.0 for Windows and FileMaker Pro 2.0 for Macintosh share the same file format so databases created on a PC or a Macintosh can be run on either platform without modification or translation. Windows and Macintosh users can simultaneously share reports, forms, graphics and scripts and update common files and lookup related data across the network painlessly. When multiple users are sharing data, instant file updating automatically reflects changes made by any one of the users.
 Pricing and Availability
 FileMaker Pro 2.0 for Windows and Macintosh is available now from authorized resellers for a suggested retail price of $339 (U.S.). For more information on FileMaker Pro 2.0 call 408-727-8227. For upgrades, call 800-544-8554.
