CLARIS ANNOUNCES CLARISWORKS FOR WINDOWS

 CLARIS ANNOUNCES CLARISWORKS FOR WINDOWS
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Claris Corporation

today announced ClarisWorks for Windows, the revolutionary new integrated software for Windows. The product features a breakthrough in interface design that offers users a more natural way of computing. Departing from the module-based approach of other integrated products that bolt separate mini-applications together, ClarisWorks for Windows seamlessly integrates robust word processing, graphics, spreadsheet, charting, and database environments.
ClarisWorks for Windows is the second internally-developed Windows product from Claris and is a proven success. Introduced on Macintosh one year ago, ClarisWorks' market share of the Macintosh integrated category skyrocketed from zero to 77 percent by June 1991 (Note 1) toppling the previous market share leader, Microsoft Works. While ClarisWorks for Windows shares the elegant interface design that drove the success of its Macintosh counterpart, it is also a true Windows application that supports key Windows capabilities and user interface standards. (FileMaker Pro 2.0, Claris' first cross-platform application and the leading database software on Macintosh, shipped on Windows last month.)
"The Windows integrated category is growing at a rate of 100 percent a year (Note 2) and Claris intends to lead this emerging market with our unique product," said Daniel L. Eilers, Claris president and CEO. "ClarisWorks is already an award-winning product and a proven market leader that will give Windows users the optimum combination of ease-of- use, breadth of features, value and performance."
ClarisWorks for Windows will be demonstrated for the first time publicly next week at Fall COMDEX in Las Vegas (Ingram booth No. S2428 at the Sands Expo).
Seamless Integration Sets Standard for Integrated Software
ClarisWorks for Windows delivers seamless integration through a superior frame-based design. Built as one application from the ground up, it lets users access tools and features from within a single document -- rather than switch between a cumbersome collection of mini- applications as traditional integrated packages require.
A ClarisWorks user can create a one-page document containing multi- column text, color graphics and a spreadsheet table and chart. To create this, the user never leaves the page: the word-processing tools are traded for spreadsheet tools simply by clicking on the always- available tool palette. As the user selects different objects on the page, the menu bar changes appropriately.
"ClarisWorks is the perfect solution for a wide range of users including new Windows users, business generalists, small business and home office users, laptop users and education," said Dick Gorman, Claris vice president of worldwide marketing.
 Elegant Design
ClarisWorks for Windows features a superior graphical user interface (GUI) that is unique among integrated packages. True WYSIWYG capabilities make it extremely easy for users to become productive immediately. For example, no special print preview modes or windows are needed to see headers, footers and footnotes. Other advanced GUI features include zoom capabilities from 3 to 3,200 percent, multiple views, tear-off palettes and simultaneous database browse/layout views.
The Right Features For The Job
ClarisWorks delivers a breadth of robust features that are designed to meet the needs of target users. The product includes powerful word processing and page layout options such as multiple columns, footnotes and linked text frames for creating professional-looking documents.
A comprehensive set of powerful graphics tools and an array of pop- up color, pattern and pen palettes enable users to design and manipulate graphics quickly and easily.
Borrowing from FileMaker Pro, ClarisWorks offers a comprehensive set of database management capabilities that enable users to instantly start creating and modifying databases and generating professional reports.
ClarisWorks also features powerful spreadsheet capabilities, including 100 functions and an array of built-in charts, all of which automatically update when data changes.
And users can launch directly into the Windows Terminal accessory to easily communicate by modem with remote computers.
 Easy to Share
With ClarisWorks' extensive array of file translators, users can open, insert, save and edit files from a wide range of applications -- including Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, Lotus 1-2-3 and dBase -- across multiple platforms. In addition, ClarisWorks for Windows share the same file format with ClarisWorks for Macintosh, so users can share work across the two platforms transparently.
 Price and Availability
ClarisWorks for Windows will ship in the United States during the first half of 1993. The suggested U.S. retail price for ClarisWorks for Windows will be announced at a later date.
