CIWF tool will gauge welfare performance.

Compassion In World Farming is developing a new benchmarking tool that will enable potential investors to access company performance on animal welfare.

There was growing interest from investors in company attitudes to welfare, said CIWF. It highlighted a request by The Co-operative Asset Management to Kellogg's - an investee company - for a commitment to cage-free eggs. The Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare would also assist in highlighting business risks.

CIWF will work with its project partner, World Society for the Protection of Animals, with a view to launching the tool in a year's time. It may be used to benchmark the top 100 pics in Europe.
