LIMERICK is to host the Irish National Basketball League finals for the first time this weekend.

More than 1,000 fans from all over the country will converge on the city for the games, which take place at the University of Limerick Sports Arena.

It will be jointly hosted by University Limerick Aughanish Women's Club and Limerick Lions Men's Club, whose spokesman John King said it was a huge undertaking.

He added: "Both clubs are well equipped to make it happen and have the full support of Basketball Ireland."

Ten teams will be competing in the finals featuring the men's and ladies Division One and Super League grades.
