CITICORP APPOINTS PEI-YUAN CHIA SENIOR EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT,
                 MEMBER OF SENIOR MANAGEMENT TEAM
NEW YORK, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- John S. Reed, chairman of Citicorp (NYSE: CCI), announced the appointment of Pei-yuan Chia as senior executive vice president and a member of the six-person corporate senior management team. In his new position Chia has oversight responsibility for all of Citicorp's consumer businesses, including branches, cards and private banking, in more than 40 countries around the world.
Reed stated: "Pei Chia, who has been an effective operating manager -- and builder -- of a number of important Citicorp businesses, brings to our new senior management structure fresh insights and perspective, particularly on developments in our global delivery of consumer financial services and how those developments affect other aspects of our global business."
Chia has been sector executive in charge of global consumer banking since December 1990. For the previous three years he had been group executive in charge of international consumer services. He began his Citibank career in 1974 as a senior marketing officer in the then newly formed consumer services group after marketing experience with General Foods Corporation.
Chia has had broad experience in the bank's consumer business, with assignments in defining Citibank services in New York City through automated tellers and other programs (in 1977), as managing director of Citicorp's consumer bank in Belgium (in 1978), as head of the newly acquired Diners Club and Carte Blanche card programs in the United States (in 1980), as head of the U.S. Development Division (in 1982), as division executive in charge of acquired savings and loan units (in 1984) and as group executive in charge of U.S. card products (in 1985).
Born in Hong Kong on Jan. 27, 1939 to a noted Shanghai banking family, he was raised in Taiwan, where he earned his B.A. degree in economics from Tunghai University in 1961. He then studied at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, which awarded him a Master's of Business Administration in 1964. He is married and has three children.
