CIRCUIT CITY STORES, INC. NAMES BIRNBAUM EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF OPERATIONS AND MARKETING

 RICHMOND, Va., Jan. 17, 1994 /PRNewswire/-- Circuit City Stores, Inc. (NYSE: CC) today announced the appointment of Richard S. Birnbaum as executive vice president of operations and marketing. Bernard W. Andrews, former executive vice president of operations, has left the company.
 Birnbaum has been with Circuit City for 22 years and was previously senior vice president - marketing. He joined the company as a sales counselor in 1972 and progressed through store operations, including managing the introduction of Circuit City to the Washington, D.C., market. Birnbaum was named a vice president in 1985 and Central division president in 1986. In that position, he was responsible for operations related to all of the company's Mid-Atlantic stores. He was named senior vice president of marketing in 1991.
 Birnbaum earned his bachelors degree in marketing and personnel from American University in Washington, D.C., and is a graduate of the Darden Executive Program at the University of Virginia.

 Circuit City Stores, Inc. has headquarters in Richmond, Va. The company operates 251 Circuit City Superstores; two stores, called Circuit City stores, in smaller trade areas; seven consumer electronics- only stores and 37 smaller, mall-based stores in the eastern, midwestern and western United States.
