CIRCUIT CITY STORES, INC., REPORTS AUGUST SALES

 RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Circuit City Stores, Inc. (NYSE: CC), today reported August sales of $311.0 million, which represents a 26 percent increase from August 1992 sales of $248.0 million and a 6 percent increase in comparable store sales. August sales reflect one less Saturday this year than last year.
 Sales for the second quarter ended Aug. 31, 1993, were $905.9 million, a 26 percent increase from $721.3 million in the second quarter of last year. Comparable stores sales increased 6 percent for the quarter.
 "Our geographic expansion program continues contributing to strong total sales growth," said Richard L. Sharp, Circuit City's president and chief executive officer. "We opened our fourth Superstore in Chicago during the month and expect to open another 14 stores in that market by Thanksgiving."
 Circuit City Stores, Inc., is the nation's largest specialty retailer of brand-name consumer electronics and major appliances. With headquarters in Richmond, it operates 228 Superstores, seven Circuit City stores and 38 Impulse stores in the eastern, midwestern and western United States.
