CIRCUIT CITY STORES, INC., REPORTS APRIL SALES

 RICHMOND, Va., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Circuit City Stores, Inc. (NYSE: CC), today reported April 1993 sales of $246.5 million, which represents a 23 percent increase from April 1992 sales of $199.7 million and a 9 percent increase in comparable store sales.
 "We continue to produce solid increases in comparable store sales despite a highly competitive retail climate," said Richard L. Sharp, Circuit City's president and chief executive officer. "Our total sales growth also reflects the ongoing success of Circuit City's Superstore expansion program, including the 27 stores opened in the second half of fiscal 1993."
 Circuit City opened its second Boston area Superstore at the end of April. The company plans to open another seven stores in this market during May.
 Circuit City Stores, Inc., is the nation's largest specialty retailer of brand-name consumer electronics and major appliances. With headquarters in Richmond, it operates 215 Superstores, seven Circuit City stores and 39 smaller, mall-based stores in the eastern, midwestern and western United States.
