 CIRCON INTRODUCES DIGITAL MEDICAL VIDEO SYSTEM
 SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Richard Auhll,

chairman and president of Circon (NASDAQ-NMS: CCON), announced that Circon has begun shipment of the new MicroDigital 1 Medical Video Camera, the first single chip CCD sensor camera with all-digital signal processing of video images.
 This new camera's unique RGB (red, green, and blue) 24-bit circuits capture video images and utilize proprietary software to manipulate and enhance these images to provide ultra-high resolution and true-to-life color reproduction.
 Current medical video systems utilize analog signal processing, which makes manipulation and improvement of image quality very difficult.
 Circon's MicroDigital 1 camera has incorporated many unique features utilizing the digital technology:
 -- Wide Range Automatic Shutter -- The sophisticated control and detection circuits can react to varying light conditions as fast as the human eye;
 -- Noise Free Imaging -- Digital video technology removes the video noise just as the (digital) compact disc technology removed audio noise;
 -- Freeze Frame Display -- A critical stage of diagnosis on surgery can be stopped, saved and analyzed with the push of a button. The frozen image is clear and noise free with color photograph quality;
 -- Light Sensitivity -- This camera has more than twice the light sensitivity of current video cameras to see into dark crevices during surgery;
 -- Exceedingly Accurate Color -- The 10 megahertz RGB signal has 2.5 times the bandwidth of even three chip analog medical video cameras;
 -- Automatic 50-Point Diagnostic Review -- Unique circuitry enables the camera to review all internal functions prior to surgery; and
 -- High Resolution -- Resolution is improved by filtering out noise, compressing data and using a full 10 megahertz bandwidth.
 Digital electronics is the latest breakthrough in video technology and will be the new standard of performance just as the digital compact disc outdated the LP record and the audio tape cassette. Digital technology can be applied not only to single-chip, but to three-chip and HDTV formats as well.
 Circon's new MicroDigital 1 is clearly a major breakthrough in medical video technology and is the ideal camera for minimally invasive surgical applications.
 The enhanced color and resolution greatly assists surgeons in properly diagnosing and performing surgery by optimizing their view of all delicate structures and procedural instrumentation.
 Circon Corp. develops manufactures and markets advanced endoscopes and video systems for minimally invasive surgical applications. Circon is the largest U.S. producer of medical endoscope and video systems.
