CINGULAR WIRELESS UNVEILS VOICE-ACTIVATED WIRELESS PORTAL.
Cingular's initial rollout of Voice Connect will be in Georgia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana with plans to expand availability nationwide over time.
"Cingular is pleased to offer customers the ability to access information and place calls via voice," says Mike Dobbs, Cingular's vice president of customer and strategic marketing. "Voice Connect lets users make phone calls without taking their hands off the steering wheel."
Services like Voice Connect are an important part of Cingular's "Be Sensible" safe driving campaign, which offer tips to drivers about sensible use of wireless phones on the highways. "Be Sensible" was launched by Cingular in Spring 2001 and is designed to educate and remind Cingular's 21.3 million customers, as well as all wireless users nationwide, about safe and courteous ways to use their wireless phones.
Voice Connect lets users place calls by speaking the name or the phone number of the person they want to call, thus facilitating hands-free dialing. Customers can upload their address books directly from their computer or Palm Pilot, which makes it easy to get those numbers into the system. Customers may also enter their contact information via a Web site, or simply speak that information into their phone. In addition, they are able to receive a wide range of personalized information audibly. Available information includes a business finder, traffic reports, TV dramas, lottery, driving directions, flight information, stock quotes, weather reports, news, sports, horoscopes, and movie information.
All current Cingular Wireless customers can activate Voice Connect service easily for themselves, by dialing *8 and following the prompts. The service may also be obtained in Cingular Wireless retail stores. Customer service is available to assist with the process as well.
Customers activating Voice Connect will get the first 60 days of service free. Thereafter, the pricing for Cingular's Voice Connect service is as follows:
$4.99 - Voice Activated Dialing (VAD)
$4.99 - Voice Information Services (VIS)
$7.99 - Both VAD and VIS
