CINEPLEX ODEON BREAKS 80 HOUSE RECORDS WITH "JURASSIC PARK", PLUS HIGHEST-GROSS IN NORTH AMERICA AT CINEPLEX ODEON UNIVERSAL CITY CINEMAS

TORONTO, June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Cineplex Odeon (NYSE: CPX) broke 80 house records this weekend with "JURASSIC PARK". 50 house records were broken in the United States and 30 house records in Canada. Cineplex Odeon also recorded the highest "JURASSIC PARK" gross in the United States of $211,000 over three days at the Cineplex Odeon Universal City Cinemas in Los Angeles. An additional $22,000 was earned on Thursday night, giving it a total gross of $233,000.
"We are thrilled with our patrons' response to the movie and our theaters," says Cineplex Odeon Executive Vice President of Marketing & Communications Howard Lichtman. "Our patrons love the new state-of-the- art digital sound technology (Digital Theater Systems) that we have installed in more than 150 of our theaters (more than any other circuit). The film offers a special audio experience in addition to the special visual experience which can't be fully appreciated without the Digital Theater System.
We also offer our patrons across North America a unique collectible 3-D Jurassic Park popcorn container which goes by the evolutionary name "TUBREX". They were selling so quickly that they're soon going to be extinct. There is also a chance for our patrons to win one of five trips for four to experience a real dinosaur dig.
The trip will include dinosaur exploring with a world-renowned paleontologist from the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology in Alberta, return air fare, hotel accommodation, and $250 in cash.
In Canada, in conjunction with Kellogg's Canada Inc., we distributed a Jurassic Park Teachers Resource Guide, designed to stimulate the imagination and serve as an educational resource. It provides information on topics such as paleontology, cloning, the Jurassic time period, and the animation process, and it contains suggestions on how teachers can bring the material to life.
We are also participating with the Royal Ontario Museum, offering free admission to a "Dinosaurmobile" for anyone with a "JURASSIC PARK" film ticket or proof-of-purchase from selected Kellogg's products. The Dinosaur Museumobile is a 75-foot travelling walk-through gallery featuring a fleshed-out Albertosaurus head at its entrance and is filled with several dinosaur skeletons made from casts taken from actual dinosaur remains. Inside, visitors will see a full-scale Albertosaurus, a small grey Ornithomimus and two dog-sized Dromaeosaurs with razor- sharp teeth and claws.
When people decide to see "JURASSIC PARK" this summer, we want them to feel they must see it at a Cineplex Odeon theater to get the full impact. Our enhanced presentation and souvenir popcorn containers will make dinosaurs, cinema sound and the movie itself a dramatic, larger- than-life experience that will leave our audiences with a lasting impression -- and possibly, a chance to participate in an actual dinosaur dig!"
Cineplex Odeon is known for providing state-of-the-art audio/visual technology in its theaters, as well as being an innovator in offering an enhanced moviegoing experience. "JURASSIC PARK" is the first of several blockbuster motion picture releases planned for the summer, during which time Cineplex Odeon will continue to provide audiences with the best value for their entertainment dollar.
