 CINEPLEX ODEON ANNOUNCES PARTICIPATION IN
UNIVERSAL PICTURES' TUESDAY DISCOUNT TICKET PROGRAM
/NOTE TO EDITORS: We are advised that the following release was intended for transmission on Feb. 12/
TORONTO, Feb. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to the initiative taken by Universal Pictures to create the opportunity to enhance mid-week moviegoing during the current economic climate, Cineplex Odeon is pleased to announce a half-price ticket on all Universal films being shown at all Cineplex Odeon first-run theaters every Tuesday throughout the United States. The ticket price is based on full evening adult admission commencing this Tuesday, Feb. 18.
Allen Karp, president and chief executive officer of Cineplex Odeon Corporation said: "We applaud Universal's decision to promote a reduced ticket admission price in the United States. Special pricing on Tuesdays has been interwoven into the Canadian theatrical exhibition fabric for several years with great success. It has had a positive impact both on the frequency of attendance for the regular moviegoer and in bringing out a large and entirely new audience who otherwise would not attend movies.
We are hopeful that Universal's strategy will be well received by the public, whom we encourage to take advantage of this special offer. The precise length of time during which this program will continue is yet to be determined by Universal, however, we expect that a great deal will depend upon the public's response."
The initial movies to be offered under the program include the critically acclaimed "Fried Green Tomatoes" starring Academy Award winners Jessica Tandy and Kathy Bates, "Kuffs" starring Christian Slater, "Cape Fear" starring Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange and Robert DeNiro, and the soon-to-be-released "Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot" starring Sylvester Stallone, as well as "American Me," featuring Edward James Olmos.
Cineplex Odeon is one of North America's largest theater circuits with approximately 1,716 screens in 400 locations.
