CIGNA MAKES WORKING MOTHER 'TOP 100' FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR; SUPPORT OF CHICAGO AREA DEPENDENT CARE SERVICES CITED

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- CIGNA (NYSE: CI) has been named one of the "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers for 1993" in a nationwide survey conducted by Working Mother magazine.
CIGNA's selection marks the second consecutive year the company has made the prestigious list.
This year, Working Mother gave a special salute to companies -- including CIGNA -- who participated in the American Business Collaboration for Quality Dependent Care (ABC Collaborative). CIGNA's involvement with the ABC Collaborative, formed to improve dependent care quality in major employee population centers, has supported child and elder care projects in Charlotte, N.C.; Dallas/Fort Worth; Los Angeles; Phoenix, Ariz.; Chicago; Long Island, N.Y.; Nashville, Tenn.; and Tampa, Fla.
The Working Mother 100 include the country's most innovative and advanced firms that support the growing needs of working families. This year's top 100 companies were selected from more than 1,000 applicants according to the following criteria: pay (compared with the competition), opportunities for women to advance, support for child care (financial, referrals and/or actual care), and family-friendly benefits (job-protected leave for childbirth, flextime, part-time, job sharing and elder care). The list was compiled by Milton Moskowitz, co-author of the best-selling book, "The 100 Best Companies to Work for in America," and researcher Carol Townsend.
"We're thrilled that CIGNA was named to the Working Mother 100 for the second year in a row," said Marjorie Stein, assistant vice president of CIGNA Employee Relations. "We are committed to attracting -- and keeping -- top-quality female talent, and to making the lives of our working parents a little easier to manage. We're proud of our work/ family programs and very pleased that Working Mother recognizes our efforts to make CIGNA a family-friendly company."
Among the programs CIGNA offers working mothers are:
