PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- CIGNA (NYSE: CI) is among more than 100 businesses and public/private sector organizations that will commit $25.4 million to fund the American Business Collaboration for Quality Dependent Care, a broad range of child and elder care programs in 44 communities in 26 states.
The collaborative's goal is to help attract and retain a productive, motivated workforce so that businesses can be competitive now and in the future. Details were announced this morning and are available from Wanger Associates (617-965-6469).
CIGNA has targeted eight cities to pilot this program, based on employee population and the need for these types of services -- Charlotte, N.C.; Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; Los Angeles; Phoenix; Chicago; Long Island; Nashville, Tenn., and Tampa, Fla. Based on the success of this effort, other collaborative efforts may be added in the future.
Participation in the collaborative may produce benefits to CIGNA company employees in the form of after-school and school-holiday programs, and reserved child care slots in day care centers.
The project represents CIGNA's latest effort to help employees balance work/family considerations. Among many other programs already in place, most CIGNA company employees are eligible for child and elder care resource and referral services, child care discounts, work/family seminars, flexible work arrangements, dependent care reimbursement accounts, family leave, floating holidays, assistance programs to deal with personal problems and well-baby programs.
These programs are a vital part of a two-way relationship that CIGNA said has proven successful for both employees and the company.
CIGNA Companies are leading providers of insurance, health care, employee benefits, pension and investment management and related financial services to businesses and individuals worldwide.
