CIC ANNOUNCES PenDOS-LITE AND PenDOS-HANDWRITER RECOGNIZER FOR THE HANDHELD PDA AND PEN COMPUTERS

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Communication Intelligence Corporation (NASDAQ NMS: CICI) (CIC) announced the availability of new versions of the industry standard pen computing environment, PenDOS(R). PenDOS-Lite and PenDOS-Handwriter Recognizer(R) are tailored to the needs of smaller handheld pen computers which have less computing power, less mass storage, less memory, and less screen space than previous pen computer notepad platforms. These new versions of PenDOS allow CIC's OEM customers to create smaller and more cost effective handheld PDAs and pen computers for their customers. PenDOS- Lite will allow end users to leverage existing DOS application code already in use on other hardware platforms.
CIC's PenDOS-Lite retains all of the features and functionality of PenDOS while allowing OEMs to use less costly and more efficient sub-386 processors. PenDOS-Lite is specifically designed to permit the easy transformation of existing DOS applications into pencentric applications for small handheld pen computers.
PenDOS-Handwriter Recognizer is an even more compact version of PenDOS specifically designed for those handheld devices with non VGA screens; such as the Seiko Epson-EHT-30 introduced at Fall Comdex in Las Vegas this past November. PenDOS-Handwriter Recognizer allows OEM customers to tailor applications for specific commercial and business needs with a pen computing solution for lightweight, wireless, data collection. On Jan. 17, at the National Retail Federation Expo, Symbol Technologies will present its recently announced PPT 4100 hand-held computer utilizing CIC's PenDOS-Handwriter Recognizer software.
"Our OEM customers have made big wins with PenDOS on their pen based notepad computers in many industry segments," said James Dao, President & CEO of CIC. "However, there are still larger markets which require a smaller form factor than notepad computers. With PenDOS-Lite, our OEM customers can provide PDA and other handheld solutions starting at a few hundred dollars."
