CIC ANNOUNCES INTEGRATION OF PENDOS(R) WITH SYMBOL TECHNOLOGIES NEW HAND-HELD PEN COMPUTERS

NATIONAL RETAIL FEDERATION EXPO, NEW YORK, Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Communication Intelligence Corp. (CIC) (NASDAQ-NMS: CICI) announced a worldwide license agreement with Symbol Technologies Inc. (NYSE: SBL) for CIC's recently announced PenDOS(R)-Handwriter(R) Recognizer software to operate on Symbol's PPT4100. The PPT4100 is the next-generation decision-support and data-collection tool designed to put more information into the hands of retail managers and associates.
CIC's PenDOS-Handwriter Recognizer is specifically designed to permit the easy transformation of existing DOS applications into pencentric applications which can be used on low-powered hand-held computers. PenDOS-Handwriter Recognizer works on handeld pen computers that support the DOS operating system.
"We are excited to work with Symbol, a world leader in hand-held data-collection tools. Symbol understands the pen computing vertical marketplace," said Madeline Duva, CIC director of business development. "As a leader in wireless technology, Symbol stands to become a dominant force in this emerging market." PenDOS-Handwriter Recognizer, the ultra compact version of CIC's industry standard PenDOS, may be customized for the languages of the major world markets including United States, Western Europe and Japan, allowing Symbol to offer its retail customers a pen computing solution worldwide.
The Symbol PPT4100 is a PC-compatible hand-held computer that accepts pen input on a 5.5" x 3.0" screen. Other features include a graphical user interface, an integrated bar code laser scanner and radio frequency wireless LAN technology using the new Symbol Spectrum One PCMCIA radio card. No larger than a video cassette and weighing about one pound, the PPT4100 is one of the lightest and smallest pen computers in its class. Optimized for the retail and light industrial markets, the PPT4100 was developed in response to customers' needs to access and input information as diverse as inventory and sales data, site layouts and product locator maps from any location throughout a facility.
