CIBA VISION RELOCATES WORLDWIDE GROUP HEADQUARTERS TO UNITED STATES; CIBA VISION U.S. REORGANIZES

 Jim Callahan to Head Worldwide Optics Operations and Marketing;
 Stuart Heap Appointed President CIBA Vision Optics U.S.
 ALTANTA, Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The world's second largest manufacturer of contact lenses and lens care products, CIBA Vision Corporation, has announced a new global organizational structure, including relocating its group headquarters from Switzerland to the United States.
 "CIBA Vision was established in the U.S. in 1980, and remains our largest market in terms of sales revenues," said Dr. Glen Bradley, chief executive officer of the CIBA Vision Group. "The U.S. represents more than 40 percent of our worldwide sales, which exceeded $500 million last year."
 Under the reorganization, effective Jan. 1, 1993, the CIBA Vision Group will be divided into two global business units: CIBA Visions Optics, which includes contact lenses and lens care products; and CIBA Vision Ophtha, which includes ophthalmic pharmaceuticals.
 James M. Callahan, currently president and chief executive officer of the U.S. CIBA Vision Corporation, has been appointed Bradley's deputy and chief operating officer for the newly created CIBA Vision Optics Business Unit. He will oversee worldwide operations and marketing of CIBA Vision's contact lenses and lens care products and will report to Bradley.
 "The changes lay the foundation for the implementation of our global strategy," said Callahan. "Our intent is to continue our growth through innovation and customer delight."
 Worldwide group headquarters will relocate to the existing CIBA Vision U.S. corporate facility in Duluth, Ga., located just outside of Atlanta. The transition from Bulach, Switzerland, is expected to be completed by mid-year 1993.
 "It's great news that CIBA Vision Corporation has selected Georgia as the home of its worldwide corporate headquarters," said Georgia Gov. Zell Miller. "CIBA Vision has been a vital member of our community since its U.S. facilities were established here over a decade ago. This expanded role in the U.S. will be a great boost to the economy in Atlanta and Georgia."
 In the new organization, Stuart Heap has been named president of CIBA Vision Optics U.S. Heap's responsibilities will focus primarily on external customer activities that meet sales, marketing and service needs. Formerly, Heap served as senior vice president of U.S. Sales and Marketing.
 "The contact lens industry faces many challenges as we look ahead in the 1990s and beyond," said Heap. "The previous organizational structure served us well in the past, however, these changes will benefit our customers in terms of continued innovation and speed-to- market for new products and services."
 Worldwide headquarters for the CIBA Vision Optha Business Unit will remain in Bulach, headed by Luzi von Bidder. CIBA Vision Optha U.S. will remain in Duluth, headed by President Steve Martin, who will report to von Bidder. CIBA Vision Optha U.S. currently markets Voltaren Ophthalmic(TM), the first sterile ophthalmic solution for the treatment of post-cataract-surgery inflammation; and the company recently introduced AquaSite(TM) Lubricant Eyedrops, a hypotonic preservative- free drop used to relieve dryness of the eye.
 CIBA Vision Optics markets a full-line of contact lenses and lens care solutions, including: the CibaSoft(R) lens family; NewVues(R) disposable soft contact lenses, now available in Softcolors(R), the first eye-color-enhancing tints; Focus(R) monthly replacement lenses, also available in Softcolors(R) and Visitint(R); AOSEPT(R) Disinfectant, as well as other lens care products, such as MiraFlow(R), and SoftWear Saline. CIBA Vision also markets a variety of products for patients with special needs, such as toric lenses for astigmatism and bifocal lenses. CIBA Vision products are marketed in 32 countries. CIBA Vision Corporation is a subsidiary of CIBA-Geigy Corporation.
