CHUBB LIFEAMERICA RECEIVES NATIONAL HONOR

CONCORD, N.H., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Governor Stephen Merrill today announced that New Hampshire's Chubb LifeAmerica has been honored by the National Governors' Association for their outstanding service to the arts. The national arts support distinction will be shared with Charles Kuralt, host of CBS network's "Sunday Morning." This is the first NGA award for New Hampshire.
According to NGA Chairman Roy Romer, Governor of Colorado, this is the seventeenth year for the awards. The awards program recognizes distinguished service to state government. Awards are given to five state officials or employees and five private citizens. In addition, two awards are given for outstanding service to the arts: one for support for the arts, and one for artistic production. The arts category was created in 1980 to recognize outstanding service to the arts.
Chubb Life America's involvement with the arts dates back to 1982, and is rooted in a commitment to the arts both as a cultural and economic cornerstone for New Hampshire. "New Hampshire is fortunate to have Chubb LifeAmerica, they are truly a national treasure. Their involvement and support of our cultural community and their leadership in creating partnerships for the arts is making an enormous differences in New Hampshire," said Governor Merrill.
Thirteen award winners from twelve states will be honored August 17 at the 85th annual meeting of the NGA in Tulsa, Okla. Chubb Life President John Swope will accept the award on behalf of the company. Governor Merrill called the honor "another positive statement about the uniqueness of New Hampshire and quality of life here."
According to a 1992 New England Foundation for the Arts study, New Hampshire arts represent a $68.5 million of the state's economy, providing some 4300 jobs and reaching three million prople annually. By cultivating the state's artistic resources and integrating them into its business efforts, Chubb Life is redefining the relationship between business and the arts.
